Christmas showings DECEMBER 7-10

Big big week! Christmas shows!

Hello….just a reminder that there are showings this week. Reminder that these shows are a short, informal way to let the parents see what goes on in class. They aren’t super polished, but they are fun and it’s good to have a practice audience before we do our big show in May.

A non-competition dance studio that focuses on

technique, creativity, affordability, and fun!

Philosophy:

Dance should be open to everyone! The goal of Kaleidoscope Dance Studio is to create a kind, inviting arena for all students to experience and appreciate the joy of movement. Classes and performances are geared to age and ability.

About the director, Liz Sackewitz: received a degree in Dance Education from BYU. She was a member of the BYU Cheer Squad and Dancensemble. Liz was the recipient of the Research and Creative Activities award and her choreography was showcased at the American College Dance Festival. Between 1997-2000, she took over the dance programs at American Fork High School, where she coached the modern dance company and drill team. She has spent many years teaching groups of all ages and abilities at local schools and studios, as well as running Kaleidoscope Dance Studio for 14 years. Liz is the mother of Parker (14), Emi (12), and Quinn (8), and Macy (5).

Registration: Classes fill on a first come/first serve basis. Space is limited in each class.

Tuition: Tuition is August-May. You will pay 1/2 tuition for August at registration. If you take 3 or more classes per student, you may take 10% off monthly tuition.

PreBallet/Creative: (45 min) A great beginning class that focuses on creative concepts and basic technique for young students age 3-6.
Kindergarten Ballet/Jazz: (1 hour) A fun combo class for students who have been through the PreBallet program. Like PreBallet, we use stories, props, songs, etc to inspire creative dance, but also focus on basic ballet/jazz technique
Ballet: (1 hour) This class focuses on traditional ballet technique, proper body alignment, and musicality.
Jazz: (1 hour) This class contains classic jazz technique, hip-hop/funk, cheer, and lyrical jazz.
Modern/Contemporary: (1 hour) Modern/ Contemporary is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres like jazz, lyrical and classical ballet.
Tap: (45 min) This class focuses on rhythm, precision, and fancy footwork.
Hip Hop: (45 min or 1 hour) This style is one of the more popular and current forms of dance. Class is high energy and athletic.
PrePointe Conditioning: (30 min) A class to be taken in conjunction with 2 of the (*) ballet classes. Focuses on strengthening the feet and ankles for future pointe work.

BIG CHANGES AT KALEIDOSCOPE DANCE STUDIO

DEAR KALEIDOSCOPE PARENTS AND DANCERS,

I have exciting news about Kaleidoscope Dance Studio…..after 14 years of classes in my basement, I am thrilled to announce that we are expanding into a bigger facility! Starting in August of 2015, we will be located on 10600 South and 1300 east. The new facility is connected to Bingham Cyclery and just west of McDonalds.

We are excited to be able to offer 3 dance floors next year. What does this mean for you? So much! More classes will be available during the peak hours. There will be more variety and space, and we will be able to specialize levels more than we have been able to in the past. Dance camps will be available in summer of 2016 to keep your dancers progress moving ahead. Pre-pointe classes will be available in 2015-16 in training for pointe classes the next year. And not to mention….tons of parking….yea!

What will stay the same? There will be the same personal attention to each student’s progress and happiness. We will still focus on age appropriate curriculum and music so that we can let kids be kids! Our current teaching staff will be staying on with the addition of new instructors. Dancers can be signed up for just one class or many classes. Costume/recital fees will remain reasonable as usual.

The new 2015-2016 schedule will be posted on April 18th with registration on May 1(more details to follow, so stay tuned).

Also, we will be launching a new website soon. Stay tuned for a link in the next few weeks.

New Teacher! Welcome Meridith Ethington

We are so happy to have a new teacher joining us at Kaleidoscope next year. Welcome to Meridith Ethington.
Here is a quick bio to get to know her a little better:

Meridith Ethington received her ballet training at Lancaster School of Ballet, and has danced in several Mountain West Ballet productions including The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, A Midsummer's Night Dream, and Alice in Wonderland. She is excited to teach and share her love of ballet with the students. Meridith also serves on the Executive Board of Mountain West Ballet.

Liz is the mother of Parker (14), Emi (12), Quinn (8), and Macy (5).

Becky Jorgensen (pictured below) has enjoyed dancing in one form or another since she was 3. She has danced with her high school drill team and dance company, in musicals, and with BYU's Folk Dance ensemble. Ballet and modern technique classes were a favorite in college as well. She lives in Draper with her husband and two daughters, ages 9 and 10. She loves teaching children. In addition to teaching, Becky loves reading, cooking (especially desserts) and adventures with her family. She is thrilled to be starting her fourth year teaching at Kaleidoscope!

Lisa Liddell began her ballet career with The Children's Ballet Theater at the age of 3. When she was 14 she studied under Willam Christensen at The Christensen Academy. After dancing with Mr. "C" for 5 years she continued to dance as she majored in ballet at the University of Utah, where eventually she graduated with a degree in Family and Consumer Studies. She had the privilege of dancing in Ballet West's Nutcracker for 4 years in her youth. Most recently she was the dance director for her stake in the Draper Temple Celebration. Lisa and her husband Brian have been married for 16 years and they have two sons, Tanner (13) and Tyler (10). She currently resides in Draper, Utah.

LeeAnn (pictured below) has been dancing since she was 3 years old. In her teens she especially loved drill and clogging. After High School she went to Ricks College where she was able to teach clogging classes and was President of their women’s clogging team. While studying Elementary Education at BYU she furthered her dance experience with a variety of dance classes as well as performing with their Folk Dance Ensemble. During some of her college years she taught dance classes for Granite Community Education in the summer. LeeAnn taught 6^th grade at Crescent Elementary for 7 years and every year her students performed a song and dance program. The highlight of these programs was the opportunity for her kids to perform for various Olympic venues during the 2002 Olympics. She lives in Sandy with her sweet husband and 4 fantastic kids. She is very excited to be part of the team at Kaleidoscope Dance.
